OK, so here’s the deal, for some reason when it comes to weddings not long after getting engaged people think “I HAVE to hire a great photographer.” Then, about 3 weeks before the wedding people think “I HAVE to remember to ask my cousin if he can bring his video camera and record it.” I’m not sure why it works this way, but for a lot of people it does. I truly get sad when I work weddings where there is not a professional videographer. This is a HUGE day, everyone is dressed up, people are smiling, dancing, and having a great time and honestly, you will miss most of it because it just goes by so fast. Photos are a great way to remember things, but let me let you in on a little secret. (Promise not to tell anyone?) a well done video about your day will tell the story in a way that photography can not. There is something about the movement, the audio, the music that just brings your day to life in an almost surreal way.

One of the first things I do when meeting with a bride is ask her about her videographer. Sometimes they mention someone, but often I hear “I don’t have room in my budget for it.” I get budgets and I understand not wanting to spend the next 30 years paying off a wedding, but let me do everything I can to encourage you to look and look again at finding a way to make it work. I have seen plenty of videographers and have done video work myself in the past and I can promise you that Vanessa and Brent McKellar do the best job in the area at capturing your day. That’s why I was so excited that they agreed to this discount idea. Trust me, Vanessa and I both would rather get a bit less money and know that you will be getting the best documentation possible for your day.

One last note, this in no way means that I will not work with other videographers or shoot weddings without videographers. Like I said, I understand budgets and sometimes certain combinations just don’t fit. I just wanted to offer a discount to those brides who are interested in getting one of the best in the area.

The video below is about 6 hours worth of raw man power. Try not to be too impressed with my shear feats of strength and skill with the power tools.  

Luke loves going up the steps but hates going down the slide. Basically all he does is climb up, play, climb down.  

My favorite thing about The Fort is that both Danielle and I can swing. She is a smoking hot mother of 4 and I’m a pudgy middle aged man so I have included a sample photo of her.  

YOU HAVE TO GET THIS DONE! NO QUESTIONS ASKED! DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT NOT DOING THIS!

Seriously, this is a no brainer. I get so sad when I work a wedding and see “Uncle Bob” over in the corner as the designated videographer. If this is one of the most important days of your life, don’t you think getting someone who knows what they are doing with a camera might be a good idea? I can’t tell you how many times I would have a bride come back to me after the wedding and tell me how much they loved their pictures but they wished that they had also set aside some budget for video as well.

One thing I want to be super clear on is that I totally “get” wedding budgets.  There is only so much money to go around, but this really is one area where you don’t want to short change yourself.  I LOVE making albums for couples, they are a great way of showing off just a few of the hunders of photos you get from your day, but if you have to decide between spending money on a fancy album that may end up collecting dust or getting a talented person to film your wedding, then I would encourage you to forget the album and hire a videographer.  You will never regret it.

I was talking to Vanessa and Brent McKellar about this a few weeks back and they also wished that more people could get the value of this service. This is not a “home movie” with a camera on a tripod at the back of the church. The stuff they put together is like something you want to see in a theater. Wonderful editing, a great musical score. It’s something you and your kids will want to watch more than once. You also get something that even the best photographer can’t give you. SOUND. As amazing, incredible, and awe-inspiring as my photos are, getting to actually hear what you each were feeling on that day just adds a whole new level of emotion.

They recently got some fancy shiny new HD cameras as well so your video will look extra pretty. In fact, I got together with them a few days ago and took some shots of them with their new “baby”.

Such a proud father.

Anyway, I’ve rambled enough. Here are two pictures of a bride and groom who most of you probably don’t know.
