Jamie & Steven had a fantastic wedding at Lanes Chapel UMC in Tyler.  They are a quirky fun group and I loved being able to bring some of that into their wedding photos.

One of the little know benefits of having a First Look is your groom paying attention to what earrings you chose to wear. :)

This is one of my favorites from the day.

They danced out of the ceremony.

Jamie mentioned that one of the things she was looking forward to most about the wedding was getting to have meatballs at her reception.  I figured a photo was in order. :)

I have had a blast getting to know you guys.  Thanks for trusting me with your day and I can’t wait to show you more photos soon! :)

These guys just got married and I’ll be showing you more images soon, but for now I had to sneak a few of my favorites to the site for your Monday morning view pleasure.

They had a fantastic First Look.

I love this little glimpse into what their kids will look like. :)

More to come later this week.

What To Wear To Your Engagement Session
What To Wear To Your Engagement Session

One of the questions I often get asked is “What should we wear?”  Rather than continue to answer it over and over I figured I’d throw out a little post on the topic.  Let’s start with what you should NOT wear. :)

Here is a shot I took back in 2006 when I was starting out.

I’m the one who told them to wear blue jeans and black.  That’s what I thought you were “supposed” to wear if you were engaged and being photographed.  The official uniform of engaged people.

Last year I took a family photo of them and we tweaked the outfit a bit. :)

Obviously the adorably cute baby helps, but having them dress in “normal people clothes” also makes the photo look more genuine.

My standard advice is wear what you would typically wear if you wanted to look good.  Don’t go overboard, but at the same time don’t show up for your session in the clothes you rolled out of bed in.  Try stuff that looks good together, but avoid matchy-matchy outfits at all costs.  I once refused to shoot a couple who showed up in white and khaki.  OK I’m kidding with that last sentence but I wish I could. :)

Here are a few examples of people that look great together in swanky clothes.

I had a great saturday afternoon at Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville with Julia & Robert.  Here are a few of my favorite images.

This is part of a new ceremony area that the are putting in.  It should be done in the next few weeks, but I didn’t want to wait to start shooting there. :)

Sometimes brides get hot in East Texas outside in August.

Thank you two for a great night.  I’ll have an album design heading your way soon. :)

More Fire Is Better
More Fire Is Better

I love when couples choose to have sparklers for their get-a-way.  They are fun, they add light, and they give the whole day a sense of crazy love story movie ending.

My tip to you… If you are using sparklers, don’t skimp on them.  Get the longer ones.  The short ones burn out way to quick.  Sometimes before you even get to them.  Also, make sure your guest wait to light them till you are standing there ready to exit.  If not, you’ll end up running though a thick cloud of smoke. :)
